A 30-year-old Owen County man was taken into custody Thursday evening on charges of disorderly conduct and failure to identify himself to Greencastle City Police officers following an unusual and disconcerting incident at an East Side business.

Officers were called to the Dollar Tree store on the northwest outlot along Indianapolis Road in front of the Greencastle Walmart store at 3:51 p.m. Thursday on the report of a suspicious person there.

A male suspect -- later identified as Zackary Jacob Eaglin of Gosport -- raised suspicions by reportedly wearing a Scooby Doo mask that covered his head and face, allegedly yelling at the complaining party and trying to offer her children doughnuts from a box of the pastries.

Leaving the mask and doughnuts behind, the suspect, described to police as having scraggly hair and tattoos, left the scene and walked westbound on Indianapolis Road. He was reportedly observed looking into cars at York Automotive before being spotted entering the Burger King restaurant further west.

That’s where Sgt. Ed Wilson and other officers caught up to Eaglin, detaining the suspect at Burger King at 4:19 p.m., City Police officials reported.

However, when he refused to identify himself and then reportedly became disorderly, the suspect was taken into custody at the restaurant. He was reportedly transported to the Putnam County Jail , where he was booked in at 6:02 p.m.

No further information was available Friday in the case.
