HANNAH GELLMAN of Greencastle graduated with a BA in English, Magna Cum Laude, from Carleton College at its 144th Commencement exercises, held on Saturday, June 9.

Gellman is the daughter of David Gellman and Monica Fennell of Greencastle.

Additionally, the Greencastle High School graduate received a pair of high honors during the annual Carleton honors convocation.

During the event, she was awarded a Fullbright Fellowhsip and elected to Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic fraternity.

Fulbright Fellowships are granted each year to American citizens for graduate work aboard. Recipients are selected on the basis of personal qualifications, academic record, and the value of their proposed study or project.

The Phi Beta Kappa national honorary scholastic fraternity was founded in 1776. The Carleton chapter was established in 1913 and elects its membership from students who rank in the highest 15 percent of their graduating class and meet other prescribed criteria.


NINGMEI GONG of Greencastle recently graduated with honors from the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities.

Ningmei is the daughter of Fuya Gong and Jinyu Liu and will be attending the University of California at Barkeley.

The Indiana Academy is a nationally ranked two-year public high school located on the campus of Ball State University. Graduation was held on Saturday, May 26 for the 146 students in the academy’s class of 2018. All graduates earned the Indiana Core 40 diploma with academic honors.


Franklin College’s 2018 commencement ceremony took place on Saturday, May 19 in Spurlock Center Gymnasium on the Franklin College campus.

Three Putnam County students were among the graduates.

GRANT ALEXANDER BRYAN, son of Tony and Leesa Bryan of Greencastle, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business (management and marketing).

ADRIANNA LEANNE PATTERSON, daughter of Mark and Heather Patterson of Cloverdale, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations.

ROBERT JACOB “JAKE” SMITH, son of Steve and Melissa Smith of Roachdale, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business (management and marketing).


DAVID A. WILLIAMS of Greencastle was among the students named to The University of Alabama dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 or above.

The UA dean’s list recognizes full-time undergraduate students.


Aurora University has named MIA STEVENS of Greencastle to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester. Stevens is majoring in exercise science.

Stevens was recognized with high honors, having earned a perfect 4.0.


PAUL HEITHAUS of Greencastle graduated this spring from Ohio Wesleyan University. Heithaus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Class of 2018 included 323 spring, summer, and fall graduates.


Wartburg College awarded diplomas to 292 graduates at its Commencement ceremony Sunday, May 27.

ALEXANDRIA STOFFREGEN of Greencastle graduated with a BA in communication arts.

She is the daughter of Kori and Stacie Stoffregen.

Wartburg, a four-year liberal arts college internationally recognized for community engagement, enrolls 1,527 students.


EMILY STINE of Greencastle was among the students named to Augustana College’s 2018 spring term dean’s list.

Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences.


COLE NEESE of Poland graduated Sunday, June 10 from UNOH (University of Northwest Ohio) in Lima, Ohio.

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with an associates degree in both automotive and high performance.

The University of Northwestern Ohio is an entrepreneurial, not-for-profit, university founded in 1920.


GAVIN JACOBS joined the firm Doehring, Winders & Co. LLP, Certified Public Accountants, in May 2018.

He is a May 2018 graduate of Indiana State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a major in accounting and a major in financial investment/analysis.

Gavin is the son of James and Donna Jacobs of Greencastle.


Franklin College has announced its dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester. Students named to the dean’s list have achieved academic distinction by earning a 3.5 grade point average or above.

Local students on the dean’s list include:

KALLIE JEAN DECKARD, a junior, is the daughter of Matt and Laura Deckard of Greencastle.

MEGAN MARIE HELTERBRAND, a senior, is the daughter of Donnie and Mimi Helterbrand of Gosport.

ALEX PARKER REINOEHL, a sophomore, is the son of Jon Reinoehl of Carbon.

JOSHUA LEE STEWART, a sophomore, is the son of Coty and Jill Stewart of Greencastle.

ALEXIS TAYLOR VARVEL, a senior, is the daughter of David and Miranda Varvel of Greencastle.


KENDA BOLLER will celebrate her 30th anniversary with LSC Communications, Crawfordsville on Aug. 1.

She began her LSC Communications career in Mechanical Bind before transferring to shipping and then to the CMB stitcher area.

Kenda has three children, Amy, Angie and Josh, plus seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She likes to spend her spare time gardening, taking care of her flowers and crocheting.
