Nila Burns Greenlee

Nila Burns Greenlee, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, in her residence.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1930 in Riley, Ind., to Howard Burns and Mable Dierdorf Burns.

She graduated from Brazil High School.

Nila first worked at Clay County Farm Bureau Co-op, moving to Greencastle to work at IBM where she met her late husband, Joseph.

She later worked at DePauw University, Greencastle High School, nursing homes in Greencastle, and the Brazil Nazarene Church day care center.

Nila lived in Greencastle, Brownsburg and Charleston, S.C., before moving to Terre Haute, where she enjoyed being among family and friends. She was active in the community through the Friendly Garden Club, the Home Extension Club, National Campers and Hikers Association, the United Methodist Church, and was a Girl Scout troop leader.

She was an active member of the Nazarene Church in Brazil, Greencastle and finally Terre Haute.

Nila loved to sew, cook, bowl, travel (especially to the beach), night sky gaze and sing gospel hymns.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph W. Greenlee; her parents; one sister, Donna Joanne Jones; one brother, Eldon L. Burns; and a brother-in-law, Omer Hamilton.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Zuzolo and her husband Phillip of Woodbridge, Va., and Lisa Greenlee of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren, Amanda and Albert Zuzolo; sister Barbara Hamilton of Terre Haute; two brothers, Wesley Burns and wife Zelda of Stow, Ohio, and Wayne Burns and wife Julie of Greencastle; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside services for family and close friends will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6 at the Coatesville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., Terre Haute. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Terre Haute First Church of the Nazarene, 801 Fort Harrison Rd., Terre Haute.

The family would like to thank Bethesda Gardens staff members for their kindness and caring during Nila's time as a resident.
