Emerson Eugene Phillips, 86, of Greencastle, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Asbury Towers.

Emerson was born in Trammel, Va., on April 29, 1932, the son of Willie and Theradoshia (Shampod) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips worked for many years with Ball Brothers until they closed. He worked at Putnam County Highway Department until his retirement in 1996.

He was a member of Church of the Living Christ in Harmony, Ind.

He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and working with his hands.

He also enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica and entertaining the residents at Asbury Towers.

Survivors include four sons, Ernie Phillips (wife Debby), Bill Phillips (wife Joyce), Mike Phillips (wife Cheyl) and Brad Phillips (wife Ruth); two daughters, Brenda Phillips and Kathy Caldwell (husband Loren); two brothers, Earl Phillips (wife Martha) and Jim Yates (wife Penny); 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Phillips and Vivian Phillips; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Mary Phillips; a son, Larry Phillips; two brothers, Bob "Barttye" and Harold Phillips; and a grandson, Bradley Phillips.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Ernie Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service on Wednesday.
