Gene D. Torrence, 91, Greencastle, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.

He was born in Peru, Ind., on Dec. 11, 1926 to the late David and Grace (Kenworthy) Torrence.

Gene graduated from Central High School in Ft. Wayne, and later served his country in the United States Army.

He married Deloris Smith on Oct. 4, 1955.

They were members of the Creekside House of Prayer in Cloverdale, and owned and operated Saf-Wa Termite Co. from 1962 until 1988.

In his free time Gene enjoyed piddling around the house, painting, working puzzles and traveling.

He had a gift for making people laugh, and he loved spending time with friends and family especially the babies.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard "Dick" Torrence and Earl "Buddy" Torrence, and sisters Nita Finnegan, Helen Shi and JoAnn High.

Survivors include wife of 62 years, Deloris Torrence, Greencastle; sons, David (Debbie) Torrence and Donald (Lisa) Torrence, both Greencastle, and Jimmy (Jessica) Torrence, Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters Norma Smith, Crawfordsville, Vicky Petrey, Greencastle, Donna (Kevin) Tincher, Brazil, and Tammy (Jim) Petrey, Greencastle; 16 grandchildren;

20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Wayne Baker and Pastor Joseph Baker officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will accept friends for visitation on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
