Application for Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship open

Tuesday, August 7, 2018

The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced that it has once again been approved to administer the 2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

After more than 20 years, this prestigious scholarship provides full tuition, including a $900 book stipend per year, for four years to any accredited Indiana college or university.

The online application for the 2019 Putnam County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is available on the Community Foundation website, www.pcfoundation.org/scholar_apps_forms.html. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Eligible applicants must be residents of Putnam County, attended a regionally accredited high school graduating by June 2019, have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.8, an SAT score of at least 1120 or a minimum ACT score of 25.

“We are looking for the best, most well-rounded high school senior in Putnam County,” Dean Gambill, director of Community Development for the Community Foundation, said.

Selection criteria for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is based on scholastic abilities and intellectual pursuits, capacity to lead and motivate fellow students, social commitment and extracurricular involvement, and the ability to articulate career plans that demonstrate motivation and initiative. Financial need is not a consideration.

“While this application is much earlier than our regular scholarship applications which will open Nov. 1, identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year gives them more time to decide which college or university to attend,” Gambill said.

The 2019 Putnam County Lilly Endowment Community Scholar will be named in mid-December.

“The 2019 Scholar will receive our community’s 39th Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship,” Putnam County Community Foundation Executive Director Elaine Peck said. “We are thrilled to provide this scholarship opportunity to Putnam County students.”

The Putnam County Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity established in 1985 to serve donors, award grants and provide leadership, enriching the quality of life and strengthening community in Putnam County.

The Community Foundation administers more than 275 funds and endowments, supporting a variety of charities.
