WEDNESDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Cub spikers fall to Tri-West

Tuesday, August 14, 2018

LIZTON — Greencastle lost 3-0 at Tri-West on Monday to even its record at 1-1.

“The team got off to a slow start in all three sets and struggled to make a good first contact, making it difficult to push points and pull ahead,” GHS coach Maggie Walters said. “Both middle hitters, Jada Amis and Allison Stevens, did a nice job of finding open shots on Tri-West’s side of the court.”

Stevens and Jada Amis each recorded eight kills for the Cubs.

Jalyn Duff had 15 assists and also played well defensively, Walters said, leading the team with 16 digs.

Lilly Meyer also played solid defense, recording 11 digs and 1 block.

The Cubs host Crawfordsville Thursday night.

“We walked the course like we meant business,” North coach Linda Patrick said. “Dropping 22 strokes from the Cascade meet, the Lady Cougars carded one of their lowest scores in two years. Although not enough to win the meet, all the players showed improvements in fairway hits.”

Haylee Greene led the Cougars with a 51, while Niyiah Goff had a 52, Abby Simmerman had a 53, Brittany Bonifacius had a 56, Grace Timm had a 58, Alley Angermeier had a 65 and Madyson Williams added a 66.

“We need to sharpen our putting as the need to decrease the number of three-putts,” Patrick said.
