Self-management diabetes class starts Sept. 4 at PCH

Everyone With Diabetes Counts, a diabetes self-management class, will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Putnam County Hospital.

The six-week series is free and open to anyone with diabetes or prediabetes, their families and/or support person(s).

Topics will include Understanding the Human Body, Understanding Risk Factors for Diabetes, Monitoring Your Body, Get Up and Move, Meal Planning, Diabetes Complications, Medications and Medical Care and Living with Diabetes.

The classes will be conducted in the third-floor classrooms of Putnam County Hospital from 2-4 p.m.

The DEEP (Diabetes Empowerment Education Program) curriculum is based on national medical care and diabetes self-care education guidelines and was developed by the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The program seeks to empower patients and communities through teaching principles of adult education and group work techniques that promote learning as well as progression toward a healthy lifestyle.
