The Putnam County Museum will host the Silver Lining Players performances of A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters" as a fundrasier benefiting the museum.

The Saturday, Oct. 6 reading begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10. The Sunday, Oct. 7 reading is a 1 p.m. brunch matinee, catered by Almost Home. The play begins at 2 p.m. at the museum and tickets are $20.

Persons may call the museum at 653-8419 or visit the Putnam County Museum in person at 1105 N. Jackson St. in Greencastle for reservations.

Karen Temple takes the part of Melissa Gardner in "Love Letters," while Ben Dulaski reads Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. The play is rated PG-13.

Asked how the idea for the performance came about, Temple replied, "About 10 years ago, Ernie Ford asked me to read 'Love Letters' with him on Valentine's Day as a benefit for the Heart Association. To help me practice, Ben read through the script with me. At some point, Ben turned to me and said, 'I would love to do this with you sometime.' This has been on our bucket list ever since.

"Ben turned 80 in May and is fighting some health issues," Temple continued. "So when Silver Linings needed a full-length play, I volunteered us. We are delighted to be able to do this together at last."

Linda Ford recalled the earlier presentation. "I loved watching (her late husband) Ernie and Karen read this play. That two people I treasured could make those feelings real for an audience was a triumph. I love this play. I'm glad Karen and Ben get to read it together."

"Love Letters" is presented through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.

Meanwhile, Silver Linings has one more August play date on tap -- at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at Autumn Glen.

In September the players will be developing new material for the fall. New members are always welcome.

Silver Linings, a script-in-hand theater group, practices at the Putnam County Museum every first and third Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any senior citizen is welcome.

During September, however, the group will only get together on Sept. 17 due to the Labor Day holiday.
