Plainfield man arrested in Putnam County after intimidating I-70 motorist

CLOVERDALE -- At approximately 7:27 p.m. Sunday, Indiana State Police Region V Dispatch Center alerted troopers to a possible road rage incident that was ongoing along westbound Interstate 70 from the 56-mile marker in Morgan County.

Preliminary investigation revealed a young mother and her two children, ages six and 11, were westbound on Interstate 70, passing a semi, when another motorist traveling at a high rate speed, approached the rear of her SUV and reportedly began tailgating.

After passing the semi, the suspect driving his Volkswagen Beetle, reportedly pulled alongside the SUV and allegedly pointed a handgun at the female.

The mother ordered her children to get down and she dialed 911 for help.

Troopers Kyle Hall and James Crisp located the suspect Volkswagen still traveling and harassing the westbound SUV at the 43-mile marker in Putnam County, two miles east of Cloverdale.

A traffic stop was initiated and during a search of the Volkswagen, troopers located two loaded handguns near the driver's area.

Coupled with the weapons found and other investigative information, Jonathon G. Wiseman, 26, of Plainfield, was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with felony intimidation and incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail.

Wiseman did possess an Indiana handgun permit, State Police said, but that does not authorize the permittee to indiscriminately point the weapon at other citizens without just cause.

Trooper Kyle was the arresting officer. Trooper James Crisp assisted.

  • They will because he is now a felon and can no longer own a gun legally.

  • Great job Troopers. And if you look on the back side of gun permits, they can be revoked.

I carry at all times (with permit), but does NOT allow me to point and threaten, specifically at children -- this lady did the right thing by calling 911.
