National Recovery Month to be celebrated Saturday

Monday, September 3, 2018

Putnam County Voices of Recovery and the Putnam County Substance Abuse Committee (PCSAC) are urging local residents to join them to celebrate September as National Recovery Month.

The celebration is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 on the Putnam County Courthouse Square. Participants are urged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on during a celebration of those in recovery that will include music and guest speakers.

The program is designed to celebrate those in recovery, educating and offering awareness to those who are still fighting the fight, while remembering those who we have lost and help end the stigma of addiction.

Bobbie Lancaster and Terry Pepple are slated to provide live music for the event, while speakers are due to include Tony Smith, Brandon Drake, Amanda Renick, Taren Proctor, Stephen Bridges and Anjali Cohan.

Booths are expected from several groups, along with Cummins Mental Health, the Hamilton Center, Bridges of Hope and more.

The nationwide observance of National Recovery Month is sponsored by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

National Recovery Month raises awareness of substance use and mental disorders, celebrates individuals in long-term recovery and acknowledges the work of treatment and recovery service providers.
