Cougars have busy week — North Putnam ran in the “Leap Into September” meet on Wednesday and the Brownsburg Invitational on Saturday.

“It was a great night to run at the Southmont Invitational,” North coach Kevin Lutes said. “Our Lady Cougars placed fifth out of seven teams and our boys were fourth out of eight.”

Anna Haste (15th) and Zach Huff (seventh) led their teams, respectively.

“They both had great follow-up support from their teammates,” Lutes said. “They fought hard. These kids are working so hard in practice this year, and it’s great to see them race with such determination.”

On Saturday, Lutes noted that several of his runners had personal best times as the Cougars were third in the girls’ race and fifth in the boys’ race.

“Our guys and girls did a great job,” he said. “Over half of our kids had PRs, so that’s very promising. We’re just trying to focus on getting better every day, and are having a blast in practice.

“This is a great group.”

Golf

Cougars fall in triangular — Lady Cougar Golfers fall to Crawfordsville and Tri-West.

Tri-West won with a score of 208, while Crawfordsville shot a 211 and North Putnam had a 227.

“The Lady Cougars keep struggling to get a few more wins in the record books for this season,” coach Linda Patrick said. “The last three meets have been a consistent score of 227 or 228. The potential to be lower is there as the Lady Cougars have carded under 215 earlier this season. All the players are just not putting their best game together the same night.”

Patrick thinks her team has potential to shoot less than 210 in each meet.

“They just aren’t getting there,” she said. “We have reduced several issues to this point concerning skills, but the players are going to have to realize those skills have to be implemented every time they strike a ball. Hopefully the girls will put forth a 100 percent plus effort to work hard and focus on every shot in the remaining two weeks of the season.”

North’s Abby Simmerman was the medalist with a 48. Haylee Greene carded a 59 for the Cougars, while Nyiah Goff and Brittany Bonifacius each shot a 60, and Grace Timm rounded out the top five players with a 64.
