Juvenile brother arrested for attempted murder in Carbon area shooting

CARBON -- A 31-year-old Parke County man suffered a gunshot wound to the face in an incident in the Carbon area Tuesday evening, the Parke County Sheriff's Department reported.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, Parke County Sheriff's deputies responded to a rural residence near the Clay-Parke county line to investigate a reported shooting. When deputies arrived they located the victim identified as Charles D. McCleery of Carbon, allegedly shot by his teenage brother.

McCleery, who was transported to an Indianapolis hospital by medical helicopter, is listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face.

The 16-year-old arrested in the shooting incident was waived into adult court in Rockville.

Zachary C. McCleery was arrested on a charge of attempted murder following the shooting of his older brother, police said. Bond for the suspect has been set at $100,000.

Assisting agencies were Rockville Police, Indiana Conservation officers and Indiana State Police with a crime scene technician.
