Airport Appreciation activities canceled for Saturday

Friday, September 7, 2018

Saturday activities at Putnam County Airport Appreciation Days have been canceled due to inclement weather.

Ginger Scott, a member of the event’s planning committee, made the announcement Friday morning.

“With much regret, due to the weather and the safety of the vendors and the participants, we will need to cancel Saturday’s activities,” Scott said.

Organizers hope to still have Sunday activities, a decision will be made later based on weather forecasts.

While the Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles Rally will not take place on Saturday, EAA pilots will still be available to discuss aviation with youngsters.

“The EAA Chapter 1374 and other aviators will still be available to discuss the discovery of flight and other aviation opportunities during most of the day,” Scott said.

If weather allows, there will still be Young Eagles flights, along with other activities, beginning on Sunday at 10 a.m.

One portion of Sunday’s activities that will be ongoing regardless of weather is an American Red Cross blood drive.

Rain or shine, the Red Cross will be on hand at the airport from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday.

“The Red Cross is unable to ancel the blood drive for Sunday,” Red Cross representative Meg Ahlering said. “The hospitals are counting on the blood.”
