Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:25 a.m. on Thursday, Sharon S. Campbell, 21, Brazil, was attempting to exit the Mobil station at U.S. 231 and U.S. 40 in a 2007 Toyota Camry.

Campbell was trying to enter the southbound left turn lane of U.S. 231. She told Deputy Matt Biggs a vehicle stopped to let her out and she checked for oncoming traffic.

However, as she crossed into the turn lane, she was hit by a 1997 Dodge Ram driven southbound by Charles E. Gorham, 17, Greencastle. Campbell said Gorham appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed.

Gorham said he had been southbound and merged into the left turn lane. He estimated he was traveling 30 mph when Campbell’s vehicle crossed into his path and he could not avoid a T-bone collision.

Biggs estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Fatemeh Emadi, 79, Terre Haute, was eastbound in the right lane of U.S. 40 in a 2015 Lexus NX200T owned by Auto House Inc.

Deputies Randy Patrick and Josh Boller arrived to find Emadi’s vehicle approximately 200 feet south of the roadway.

The car apparently left the roadway around 630 E. U.S. 40, making contact with a farm fence and then a Lamar Company advertising sign, before traveling through another farm fence and coming to rest at 1001 E. U.S. 40.

Upon officers’ arrival, Emadi was sitting in the hatchback area of the vehicle, complaining of chest and back pain. Operation Life transported her to Putnam County Hospital.

The vehicle was towed.

Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
