PREP ROUNDUP: Cougar spikers on a roll

North Putnam swept visiting North Montgomery 25-16, 28-26, 25-19 on Monday.

“The Cougars played very well,” coach Bonnie Osborn said. “It was nice to get a second win in straight sets.”

Cougar stats:

Attacks: Bradi Gierke 18/26 with 10 kills, Kinzey Young 8/10 with 3 kills, Brie Miller 18/22 with 11 kills an Haley Stevenson with two kills.

Serving: Zoey Dickson led in serving 11/12 with six aces.

North’s JV also won in straight sets.

In other volleyball:

• North Putnam 3, Bethesda Christian 0 — NP won in straight sets, 25-9, 25-13, 25-18.

The Cougar JV won in three by scores of 23-25, 25-11, 15-9.

• Greencastle 3, South Putnam 0 — The Tiger Cubs beat the Eagles 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 on Tuesday night.

The Cubs were led by Jada Amis and Macy Clark with eight kills each.

Jalyn Duff had 14 assists, while Anna Zellers had 10 assists and Lilly Meyer added six kills.

“Mckenzie Woodall and Meyer controlled the defense, allowing Duff and Zellers to run the offense,” GHS coach Maggie Walters said.

Woodall had 11 digs and Meyer added 10. Anna Zellers served aggressively, recording five aces.

“The tough serving got the Eagles out of system, allowing Greencastle to run multiple free ball plays,” Walters said.

Greencastle’s JV won 2-0. Both teams take on Monrovia Thursday night at McAnally Center.

Tennis

• South Putnam 5, Edgewood 0 — At Ellettsville on Monday, the Eagles won all five matches in straight sets.

“As the season is winding down, everyone is playing some really good tennis,” South coach Johnny Briones said. “With one more regular-season match left [Linton-Stockton at home on Thursday for Senior Night], we’ve got some really good momentum going into sectionals next week.”

The sectional begins next Wednesday at Northview.

Soccer

• Western Boone 4, North Putnam 1 (girls) — The Cougars concluded their regular season with a loss to the Stars.

Baylee Osburn had her first career goal for the Cougars.

• White River Valley 2, North Putnam 1 (boys) — The Cougars lost on a warm night to White River Valley.

“The Cougars were unable to create more chances and were beaten by a team that passed the ball well,” coach Kyle Morgan said.

Elliot Sabens had the lone goal for the Cougars, who are back in action Thursday night against Edgewood.
