County football to be decided tonight; many titles up for grabs on Saturday
Tonight’s Greencastle-North Putnam football game will not only be played to decide second place in the West Division of the Western Indiana Conference, but will also crown the Putnam County champions.
Conference-wise, Greencastle can wrap up second place in the West with a win, and would host the winner of tonight’s Edgewood-Cascade game next week for third place.
If North Putnam wins tonight, the potential for a three-way tie exists. The Cougars and Cubs would be tied with 3-2 conference records, and Sullivan could equal that mark with a win over West Vigo tonight.
A tiebreaker would then determine the order of finish.
County-wise, North Putnam is looking to defend its title of last year — which it won with a 10-0 victory at Greencastle.
The Cougars would be the champs for the third time in the past four years with a victory tonight, and the crown would be their 13th over the past 25 years — more than double the total of any other county school.
Sectional pairings for football will be drawn at 6 p.m. Sunday, with the telecast available at ihsaatv.org.
Several other championships are up for grabs this weekend.
