Volleyball sectionals set to get under way tonight

Cloverdale takes the best record into the Clasas 2A Monrovia Sectional at 18-9, but three other teams are over .500.

Covenant Christian is the defending champion, but graduated 12 seniors from last year’s team and is just 9-19 this season.

Tonight’s winner plays South Putnam on Saturday in one semifinal match, while Thursday night’s two winners play in the other semifinal.

Greencastle takes the best record into the Class 3A Southmont Sectional and meets Lebanon in Thursday’s opener.

Benton Central, with the second-best record in the field, awaits the winner in Saturday’s first semifinal match.

In other volleyball:

• Cubs win Clinton Prairie title — Greencastle ended its regular season with a flair on Saturday by winning four matches to take the Clinton Prairie Invitational title.

The Cubs defeated Taylor 25-11 and 25-6, Clinton Central 25-21 and 25-18, Clinton Prairie 16-25, 26-24 and 15-7 and Eastern (Howard) 25-18, 25-12.

Allison Stevens led the Cubs with 32 kills and 11 aces on the day, while Jada Amis had 16 kills, Lilly Meyer had 15 kills and 20 digs and Macy Clark had 14 kills.

Jalyn Duff had 62 assists and 21 digs on the day, while Mckenzie Woodall had 37 digs and Ivy Wright had 14 digs.
