Family Support Services heading to Austin in support of its services

Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Family Support Services of West Central Indiana is asking the public to join the group on a “trip” to the West on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The organization will be hosting Family Support Services Gone Austin as its signature event to raise funds in support of its domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and neglect intervention and preventative services.

This is the first year for the event scheduled at Harvest Barn in Greencastle and presented by Ascena Retail Group. Beginning at 6 p.m., it will include a night of food provided by Putnam Inn Catering, musical entertainment by Anderson DJ and Karaoke, and silent auction in support of the Family Support Services of West Central Indiana.

“The events of this past year give us many reasons to celebrate our mission of breaking the cycle of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and neglect in the communities we serve in Putnam, Owen, Clay, Montgomery and Boone counties,” Executive Director Scott Monnett said. “We encourage the members of the community to join us for this celebration, because without them we could not do the great work our advocates and case managers do every year.

“We are grateful to our sponsors who have committed their support so far like Ascena Retail Group, Jerry’s Wrecker Service, Putnam County Hospital, Wabash Capital, First National Bank, Prime Real Estate Group, Putnam Inn, Anderson DJ and Karaoke and Harvest Barn Wedding and Event Venue, and look forward to adding more.”

Those interested in becoming a sponsor or donating to the silent auction may call Monnett at 653-4820 or email him at scott.monnett@pcfss.net.

For event details or to purchase tickets, persons may call FSSWCI or visit www.fsswci.net.

Attire of casual country, western wear, boots and blue jeans are encouraged and welcome. Harvest Barn is a covered outdoor barn, so attendees might want to bring a jacket or sweater for cool fall nights.

FSSWCI serves Putnam, Owen, Clay, Montgomery and Boone counties and is dedicated to preventing child neglect and abuse, ending relationship abuse, eliminating sexual violence, supporting battered men, women and children, nurturing new mothers and young families, educating youth about healthy relationships and teaching abusers how to feel compassion and to manage their expressions of anger appropriately while taking responsibility for their actions.

The organization strives to build a stronger community by building and supporting healthy families, Monnett said.
