Monday, October 22, 2018

Raccoon State Recreation Area will celebrate its 25th annual Halloween camping weekend on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Raccowl Egg Hunt will start 10 a.m. behind the camp store, across the street from the modern campgrounds. Crafts and face painting will start at noon and run until 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel Shelter.

The costume contest will begin at 3 p.m., next to the camp host site. Three age categories are set -- ages 5 and younger, ages 6 to 11, and ages 12 to adult. There are three possible prizes for each category. There will also be prizes for the best group costume of two or more persons, and the best pet costume.

The costume and campsite decoration contests are the only events that are for campers only.

From 5-7 p.m., all traffic will be stopped inside the campground for trick-or-treating, an event that is open to the public. Parking is available at the camp store, main ramp, office and along Berry Drive.

After trick-or-treating, those interested can meet at the Chapel Shelter for the awards ceremony at 7:15 p.m.

Hayrides will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from the campground gate prior to 7 p.m.

All activities are free with the exception of hayrides ($2 per person). Donations are accepted to offset the cost of prizes and decorations.

For more information about the event, persons may call 765-344-1412.

Park entrance fees will apply with $7 per in-state vehicles and $9 for out-of-state vehicles.
