Jewelry Roadshow on tap Saturday at Putnam County Museum
Antique and vintage jewelry evaluator Ann Rambo, accompanied by local jeweler and gemologist Steve Mason, will answer the public's questions about jewelry Saturday at the Putnam County Museum's first-ever Jewelry Roadshow.
The 11 a.m. program is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 in the new event room at the museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.
Some of the questions to be answered may be who made it, when was it made, where is it from and perhaps most importantly, what is it made of and are those stones genuine. The educational program may answer these and other jewelry-related questions.
The program is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring up to two pieces of jewelry to be examined. Fine, designer and costume jewelry will be considered for comments.
Guest spaces are limited. Persons may call the museum at 653-8419 to reserve a spot with the specialists or interested persons may just come to listen and learn.
Mason, who has more than 45 years of experience in jewelry, is a registered jeweler and appraiser, a trained gemologist and a practicing goldsmith. He grew up in the family's jewelry business and continues to operate Mason Jewelers in Putnam County.
Mason recently gifted the museum a major collection of Putnam County-produced Castle Craft jewelry.
Rambo has been collecting "sparklies" since childhood when she was assigned that duty while her parents fished.
As an adult, she apprenticed with an antique jewelry dealer and developed a keen interest in art periods and history. She eventually purchased her mentor's business. Rambo has maintained estate jewelry cases at antique shows and malls and now sells estate jewelry on her website, anniesvintagejewelry.com.
