Students in Leah Henry’s South Putnam High School government class were recently tasked with putting the U.S. Constitution into infographics that the average Putnam County voter could understand.

Henry contacted Eric Wolfe at Prime Real Estate to see if he could help with the project for her classroom. He agreed and helped draft a letter to the students, asking them to do the task that would hopefully be seen by many people who were participating in early voting during October.

The old Game Warehouse storefront at 9 W. Washington St. on the south side of the square and a number of other storefronts around the square that are for rent were put to use.

Henry quickly realized she also needed help paying for the cost of printing the infographics.

“Luckily I knew that the DAR was looking for ways to promote the Constitution with their Constitution Day initiatives,” she said.

She contacted DAR board member Beverly Ross to see if the DAR would be interested in sponsoring the project-based learning experience.

“The DAR paid for the printing, Eric Wolfe provided the window space, and the South Putnam seniors dove into the Constitution and got creative,” Henry said.

The Castle also provided help by connecting her with Kelly Graves of DePauw University, who is the creative marketing director, and gave feedback to students as they worked.

The infographics are on display through Election Day, Nov. 6, at 9 W. Washington St., where the game shop used to be.

“I’m always looking for real-world connections to the content that is taught in my classroom,” Henry said, “and hope to continue to find community partners willing to help make learning relevant and meaningful for students.”
