County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:28 a.m. Michael Kent Hanlon, 56, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of methamphetamine and carrying a handgun without a license.

• At 3:27 a.m. Jesus Exiquiio Perez, 43, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of methamphetamine, carrying a handgun without a license and driving with a suspended license.

Sunday

• At 5:45 p.m. Troy Stone Martin, 20, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a synthetic drug, possession of paraphernalia and petition to revoke home detention.

• At 4:17 a.m. Joseph Paul O’Conner, 48, Greencastle, was booked in for operating as a habitual traffic violator and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

• At 12:55 a.m. John David Brickert, 29, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for resisting law enforcement.

Saturday

• At 6:20 p.m. Daniel Ian Spicer, 37, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and reckless driving.

Friday

• At 10:46 p.m. Mark L. Salmo, 26, Brazil, was housed at the jail for public intoxication.

• At 8:13 p.m. Michael Thomas VanEvery, 38, Cloverdale, was booked in on a Marion County warrant.

• At 6:02 p.m. Nickie Michelle Winslow, 42, Bainbridge, was lodged at the jail for theft and on an out-of-county warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:06 a.m. on Saturday, Charles Simpson, 35, Avon, was eastbound on State Road 240 just west of County Road 650 East in a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Riley Houghton estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 2:33 a.m. on Friday, Patrick A. Williams, 33, Avon, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 500 East when he noticed flames coming out of the hood of the 2010 Fort Transit Connect van he was driving. The vehicle was registered to Whites Electric of Mooresville.

Williams told Deputy Jeffery Freeman that he drove the vehicle into the ditch to slow it down. Once it came to a stop, he exited the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Freeman deemed the vehicle a total loss, destroyed by flames.

The deputy also believed Williams to be under the influence of alcohol, but he refused a certified chemical test. Williams did, however, agree to a portable breath test, testing at .203 blood alcohol content.

Williams was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 4:29 a.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated-refusal.

The vehicle was towed. Freeman estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 5:56 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, Aidan Millican, 17, Bainbridge, was eastbound on County Road 800 North, navigating a turn in the roadway when his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado left the road.

Millican told Sgt. Kyle Gibbons he was trying to swat lady bugs out of his face at the time.

The vehicle rolled several times, suffering disabling damage.

Millican signed a statement of release, indicating he was not injured in the accident.

The truck was towed. Gibbons estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:25 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, Alisha M. Tiedemann, 23, Cloverdale, was eastbound on County Road 1075 South approaching the T intersection with County Road 300 West in a 2002 Ford F-150. Jerry D. Waggoner, 37, Reelsville, was southbound on 300 West approaching the intersection in a 2012 Mazda 6I.

Tiedemann told Deputy Robert Soilleux she was unfamiliar with he road and did not see the stop sign until the last minute. She was unable to top in time and rolled into the intersection.

Waggoner told the deputy he was southbound when Tiedemann’s pickup ran the stop sign and collided with he front of his vehicle.

Both drivers said they were uninjured and refused medical aid.

Waggoner’s car was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches:

• At 3:56 p.m. on Friday, GFD was called to a motor vehicle accident without injuries at the intersection of Albin Pond Road and Houck Road. Units arrived at 4 p.m. and performed cleanup of debris from the roadway. GFD cleared the scene at 4:38 p.m.

• At 3:47 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 412 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:51 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:23 p.m.

• At 4:41 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 405 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:44 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:50 p.m.

• At 10:41 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 504 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:44 and determined that an individual had pulled an alarm level, as no fire could be found. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:04 p.m.

• At 4:58 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was called to a hazard alarm on Elm Street for downed power lines. Units arrived about 5:08 p.m. and found that communication lines had fallen. As there was no hazard risk, the call was disregarded. GFD went back into service at about 5:11 p.m.

• At 5:36 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 413 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:40 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD went back into service at 5:46 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
