Republicans sweep county races

Tuesday, November 6, 2018

UPDATE: 9:18 p.m.

It was a complete sweep for the Republican Party in Putnam County Tuesday.

All contested races for state, county and township trustee went to the GOP, with just four Democrats even finding their way onto township advisory boards.

In a U.S. Congress race of local interest, Greencastle’s Jim Baird is projected to take the Fourth District seat currently occupied by Todd Rokita, besting Avon Democrat Tobi Beck.

Likewise, Baird’s son Beau won Indiana House District 44 over Democrat Kim Fidler.

At the county level, there were just two contested races, but District 2 Commissioner Rick Woodall (R) took 73 percent of the vote in his race against Steve Cash.

Meanwhile, in County Council Distrcit 3, Republican Danny Wallace took 62 percent of the vote in his race against Democrat Matt Cummings.

Additionally, all four contested township trustees races went to Republicans — Tina Sillery in Clinton Township, Marsha Carrington in Floyd, Jeff Alexander in Madison and Steve Butts in Greencastle.

For complete election results, check back to the website later or see the Wednesday edition of the Banner Graphic.

With the polls closed as of 6 p.m., the wait has started for election results in Putnam County.

Based on the May primary, it is likely to take longer than in past elections for the first sets of results to start rolling in.

However, there are contested races in the county to watch. When the results start rolling in, the Banner Graphic staff will be keeping a close eye on:

• U.S. Congress District 4: Jim Baird (R) and Tobi Beck (D).

• Indiana House District 44: Beau Baird (R) and Kim Fidler (D).

• Putnam County Commissioner District 2: Rick Woodall (R) and Steve Cash (D).

• Putnam County Council District 3: Danny Wallace (R) and Matt Cummings (D).

• North Putnam School Board Floyd Township: Ron Spencer, Jeff Barber and Shiloh Worth.

• North Putnam School Board Clinton Township: Travis Lambermont and Brad Nelson.

• South Putnam School Board Jefferson Township: Wes Hacker and Joseph Roach.

There are also contested races for township trustee in Clinton, Floyd, Madison and Greencastle townships.

At the county level, there are also several uncontested Republican incumbents such as Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter, Clerk Heather Gilbert, Recorder Tracy Bridges, Sheriff Scott Stockton, Surveyor David Penturf and County Council members David Fuhrman (District 1), Jill Bridgewater (District 2) and Keith Berry (District 4).

Though not an incumbent, Deputy Assessor Janet Brown is unopposed in her bid to replace retiring Assessor Nancy Dennis.

This story will be updated as results become available.

  • A lot of political signs are still up all over Putnam County.

Where can they be taken to clean up the landscape?
