80 vendors due Saturday for GMS Holiday Bazaar

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

When the Greencastle Middle School Holiday Bazaar opens its doors on Saturday, guests will find 80 vendors ready to sell their wares ahead of the holiday season. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the event runs through 2 p.m. There is no admission fee.

Event coordinator Angela Huff shares that while several vendors are coming in from out of town, more than 80 percent are from Putnam County.

“About half of the vendors were with us last year for our inaugural event at Greencastle Middle School, and a large number of them doubled their booth size based upon their success last year. We are excited to see them grow. We also have a good number of first-time vendors who have been ‘makers’ at home and have sold their creations on Etsy, but never in a live space. It will be fun to see what they, quite literally, bring to the table.”

Building on the success of last year’s event, the Greencastle Middle School PTO opened for vendor registration in early September. Last week they officially called an end to registrations, having filled every available booth spot in the school.

“We even have a 20-foot mobile boutique, The Rustique Boutique, that will be set up in the parking lot in front of the school entrance as well.”

The GMS Scholastic Bookfair will be open during the bazaar, offering a variety of books for purchase as well as Harry Potter memorabilia.

Besides being a fundraiser for the GMS PTO, the Holiday Bazaar offers free booths to student groups like the GHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes, GMS Tri-M and the Greencastle Music Boosters. These groups will be selling T-shirts, ornaments and baked goods to raise funds for their programs.

The GHS Post-Prom Committee will provide breakfast and lunch items for purchase in the cafeteria. All funds will benefit the Post-Prom program in 2019.

Throughout the day, guests of the event will be treated to live performances in the cafeteria. The Putnam County Youth Choir will kick off the day with a 10 a.m. performance, followed by Zumba and Hip Hop. At noon, Dance Workshop students will take the stage with performances through 2 p.m.

“Of course, we hope that folks will come out to buy local and support our vendors, but we also hope they will grab some breakfast or lunch and hang out in the cafeteria for a while. The new Greencastle Community Learning Center After School Program will be set up in the cafeteria and they plan to have some checkers and board games out for families to play while they wait on the performances.”

A full list of vendors and the schedule for the day can be found on the Greencastle Middle School Holiday Bazaar 2018 Facebook Page.

Greencastle Middle School is located at 400 Percy Julian Drive.
