Rowland Laverne Sims

Rowland Laverne Sims, 72, of Greencastle, passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at Mill Pond Health Campus.

Rowland was born in Greencastle on March 24, 1946, the son of Paul W. Sims and Nannie E. (Furney) Sims-Lancaster, and was a 1964 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mr. Sims proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a supervisor for Conrail for 28 years.

He was a member of the NRA, the VFW Post No. 1550 and the Moose Lodge No. 1592. Rowland was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.

Survivors include 3 children, Paul Sims (wife Julie) of Gosport, Michelle Montero of Greencastle and Ashley Sims of Arizona; two brothers, Hubert Sims (wife Mildred) of Willison, Fla., and Daniel Sims (wife Elaine) of Greencastle; two sisters, Lola Norris (husband Don) of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Marcia King of Greencastle; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Frank Lancaster; and a brother- in-Law, Oscar King Sr.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of Life from 1-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Myers’ 5 East, 5 E. Franklin St., Greencastle.
