As the performance season for Jazz at The Duck winds to a close, the Thursday, Nov. 15 show will feature a one-time collaboration between series organizer Steve Snyder and two special guests.

This version of the Steve Snyder Trio will feature drummer Jim White, Brandon Coleman on guitar and Snyder on keyboards.

Jim White is a drummer currently teaching in the jazz program at the University of Northern Colorado.

“Jim and I spent many years together playing during our undergraduate days,” Snyder said, “and I am looking forward to a reunion this Thursday.”

Since those early days, White has played with J.D. Souther, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Crystal Gayle, Jerry Douglas, Curtis Stigers, Charlie Peacock, Jack Pearson, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan and Willie Nelson.

In addition, he has performed with many top jazz artists, including Maynard Ferguson, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Joey Defrancesco, Pat Bianchi, Greg Gisbert, Jim Ferguson, Chris Potter, Annie Sellick, the North German Radio (N.D.R.) Big Band and many others.

Snyder also has a bit of history with Coleman.

“Brandon Coleman is a guitarist I first met as a student at my former institution,” Snyder said. “He has become an outstanding musical force in the region, and has been branching out to New York City and other major city locations.”

Coleman has performed at notable venues including – but not limited to – The Blue Wisp Jazz Club, Bop Stop, BluJazz+, Bar Next Door at La Lanterna, 55 Bar, Club Bonafide, The Jazz Estate, Cliff Bell’s, Rudy’s Jazz Room, Jimmy Can’t Dance and Merriman’s Playhouse.

His festival appearances include the Loja Jazz Festival (2012) in Loja, Ecuador, the 2014 CBGB Festival in NYC, and the 2014 and 2016 Columbus Jazz & Rib Fests.

He has shared the stage with numerous jazz luminaries, including Gary Versace, JD Allen, Peter Mazza, Noah Preminger, Colin Stranahan, Bucky Pizzarelli and Bill Dobbins.

Snyder, who came to DePauw in 2014, is a pianist and organist who maintains an active playing schedule locally, nationally and internationally.

Snyder was selected as one of 66 pianists from all over the world to compete in the Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition, staged in Paris in October 2002.

After taking Thanksgiving week off, there will be two more Jazz at the Duck performances for the fall semester.

• Thursday, Nov. 29: K. Scott Sparks Trio.

• Thursday, Dec. 6: Year-end jam session.
