County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:36 p.m. Chrisee Nicole Walton, 34, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 11:30 a.m. Robert Lee Washburn, 38, Roachdale, was taken into custody for unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.

Saturday

• At 4:46 a.m. Karissa Nicole Martin, 19, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage

Friday

• At 8:34 p.m. Edward Nathaniel Willis, 47, Greencastle, was booked in on a revocation of work release.

• At 5:28 p.m. Samantha S. Miller, 33, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 11:03 a.m. Coby Jacob Farley, 18, Frankfort, was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 10:28 a.m. Todd Andrew Yeagley, 40, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for contempt of court and on a Hamilton County warrant.

Thursday

• At 3:42 p.m. Tramell Lawrence White, 29, Lafayette, was booked in on a court order.

• At 2:36 p.m. Franklin Delnor Roosevelt Boehm Jr., 45, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:16 p.m. Deric Lee Coffman, 24, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 9:24 a.m. Nathan Allen Blackburn, 22, Poland, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

One recent summons was issued to a Parke County woman by Greencastle City Police officers.

Laina Harwood, 22, Rockville, will be summoned into court on a possession of marijuana charge, City Police reported.

Harwood was stopped by Officer Elsiana Crosby on U.S. 231 North near The Fairway restaurant at 10:11 p.m. Friday.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated seven recent property-damage accidents.

• At 7:34 p.m. on Sunday, Kayla Downing, 26, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 50 East in a 2012 Ford Escape when two deer ran out in front of her.

Downing told Deputy Tanner Brown she was approaching a northbound vehicle and in order to avoid the deer and the vehicle, she drove off the roadway.

Afterward, Downing drove back onto the road.

Brown estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 6:27 p.m. on Sunday, Kent Stevens, 74, Coatesville, was westbound on County Road 550 North in a 2012 GMC Terrain when he hit a deer.

Deputy Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:51 a.m. on Saturday, Jonathan Beckman, 23, East Greenbush, N.Y., was westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2018 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Brown listed damage at $10,000-$25,000. The truck was towed.

• At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jacob Fulton, 21, Danville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2014 Toyota Sienna when he hit a deer.

Deputy Brown estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, R. Varvel, 51, Fillmore, was southbound on U.S. 231, stopped at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 36 in a 2012 Dodge Ram. Ryan P. Payne, 26, Greencastle, was southbound approaching the intersection in a 2018 Ford Transit owned by Enterprise leasing and leased to Johnson Control.

Payne told Deputy Daniel Birt he was becoming drowsy and falling asleep while driving. He said he got a notification on his cell phone that woke him up and he noticed Varvel’s vehicle stopped at the red light.

Payne’s vehicle hit Varvel’s truck on the left rear corner of the cargo bed. Payne’s vehicle was damaged in the passenger’s side fender.

Birt estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 5:57 p.m. on Thursday, Michelle L. Riggleman, 46, Dugger, was northbound on State Road 243 in a 2010 Buick LaCrosse.

Riggleman told Deputy Randy Patrick that multiple deer came across the road and she attempted to miss them. She then lost control and hit a bridge, coming to rest in the southbound lane.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:19 p.m. on Sunday, Cody A. Eder, 33, Terre Haute, was southbound one County Road 800 West just north of U.S. 40 in a 2004 Mitsubishi.

Eder told Deputy Josh Boller a northbound pickup truck was approaching his location and he left the roadway. He was then unable to get back on the roadway before hitting a utility pole.

The vehicle was towed. Boller estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

•At 3:41 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 1013 E. Shadowlawn Ave. for what was reported as a dumpster fire. Firefighters arrived at 3:43 but found that the fire had put itself out. GFD posited that the fire had started due to cigarette butts that had been thrown into the trash. GFD went back into service at 4:11 p.m.

•At 10 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 66 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:04 and determined that the alarm was due to steam. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 10:15 a.m.

•At 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 18 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:18 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset by DePauw University Public Safety. GFD left at 2:27 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists during this time.
