Sheriff Scott Stockton

Having just won his second term as sheriff in Putnam County, Scott Stockton will be the featured guest of the next Community Conversation.

This final conversation of 2018 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Library, 103 E. Poplar St., Greencastle.

Sheriff Stockton graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in 1986 and has had many assignments in his 32 years of law enforcement, ranging from legislative security detail to working undercover with the Drug Enforcement Agency to being assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Alongside his duties as sheriff, Stockton currently teaches for the National White Collar Crime Center on fraud prevention, is the vice president of the Indiana Sheriff’s Youth Ranch in Clay County and was recently appointed to the U.S. Attorneys National Security Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council.

Locally Stockton serves on the board for Family Support Services as well as the Putnam County Substance Abuse Committee.

Sheriff Stockton’s vision for the next four years is to continue working with other community leaders in securing a men’s homeless shelter as well as expanding social services to those in need. Additionally he sees a need for mental health treatment centers and counseling. Lastly, he is committed to continuing to work with those incarcerated with programs and early release (work release) so that when released they are better prepared to compete.

The Community Conversation series is sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters, the Putnam County Public Library and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

The goal of this new continuing program is to give the community an opportunity to hear from and speak to their elected and appointed government officials.
