Putnam Inn revives Christmas lights contest

Recalling the memories her family made looking at Christmas lights, a local business owner is reviving a local holiday tradition.

The Putnam Inn is sponsoring the 2018 Home for the Holidays Christmas lights contest, bringing back an event the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce sponsored until 2014.

Owner Rhonda Brotherton recalled how her family always made a point of driving around to see all the participating houses.

“It was a big family tradition of ours,” Brotherton said. “Even when the kids were in high school, we always found a night to go see the houses.

“We would love for everyone to share the same amazing family memories as us.”

Entry forms can be printed off the Putnam Inn Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PutnamInn) or picked up at the restaurant. Homes need to be within a 20-minute drive of the restaurant.

The winner will receive a $100 gift card to the Putnam Inn.

Entries must be turned in at the restaurant, 400 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, by Saturday, Dec. 1.

“I always enjoyed it and I just wanted to encourage people to keep decorating their homes,” Brotherton said.

Even those who don’t sign up to decorate may still get involved by joining in the judging on Saturday, Dec. 15. Scoring sheets will be turned in the next day at the restaurant.

Judges will get a map to the locations and a bag of treats.

Brotherton just hopes the contest helps families make memories like hers did.

“Hopefully we have a lot of participation,” Brotherton said.
