Clover girls get poll honors

Cloverdale’s girls’ basketball team continues to receive high rankings from two organizations.

The Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association has the Clovers ranked 12th this week, as the top team receiving votes.

Western Boone, a potential sectional foe, is 18th.

The Indiana Girls Basketball Recruiting Report has the Clovers ninth for the second straight week.

Western Boone is 19th in the IGBRR rankings.

Triton Central, a potential Class 2A regional opponent for the Cloverdale Sectional winner, is ranked second by the IGBRR and third by the ICGSA.

Cloverdale is 7-1 going into tonight’s home game with North Putnam. The Clovers hold signature wins over a Class 4A Terre Haute South team and a 6-2 Class 3A Greencastle team.

Cloverdale won the Putnam County tournament earlier this month for the first time in 10 years.

The only loss suffered by the Clovers so far this year was at Class 3A No. 6 Danville.

The Clovers are scoring 63.5 points per game, which ranks them 26th in the state among all classes. Their average margin of victory is 18.5 points per game, which ranks them 47th in the state. Senior center Tori Combs leads the team in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game, which ranks her 59th in the state. She is 12th in the state in rebounding with 12.9 per game. Sammie Shrum adds 15.5 points per game, which ranks 104th in the state.
