K. Scott Sparks Trio to play Jazz at The Duck Thursday

Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Following a week off for Thanksgiving, Jazz at The Duck is back this week, with the K. Scott Sparks Trio playing the Thursday event at the Fluttering Duck inside The Inn at DePauw.

The concert series takes place from 8:30-10:30 p.m. each Thursday that DePauw University is in session.

This week’s trio features Kevin Sparks on trumpet, Brian Yarde on drums and series organizer Steve Snyder on keyboards.

“Kevin Sparks is a trumpet player with a unique voice, and a wide range of artistic sensibilities,” Snyder said. “In addition to playing great trumpet he holds an MFA in fine arts, and has post-graduate work in aesthetics and philosophy.

“His playing reflects a deep thought and uncommon vision.”

Snyder also had high praise for Yarde.

“Brian is one of my favorite drummers in the Indy area,” Snyder said. “Brian originally hails from Barbados, and has made his home in the Indy area for the last 10 years.”

Yarde drums for a number of different ensemble styles, including blues, jazz, reggae, progressive rock, R&B, Afro Cuban and more.

There will be one more Jazz at the Duck session for the semester, a year-end holiday jam session featuring Veronica Pejril on keys, Bill Hamm on bass and Rick Provine on drums. All comers are invited to sit in and provide accompaniment.
