BOYS

South Putnam (1-0) at North Putnam (1-0)

The coaches: Greg Dean is in his fifth year at South Putnam. Collin McCartt is in his fifth year at North Putnam.

On the air: WREB-FM 94.3 will broadcast the game, and www.iscsportsnetwork.com will stream the game online.

So far: South Putnam won its opener 67-50 at Clay City, while North Putnam won its opener at home 58-33 over Southmont.

History: South Putnam won 57-56 in the county tournament consolation game last spring. The teams have evenly split 48 games over the past 30 years.

Key players: Thomas Fanning led South with 24 points against Clay City, while Allen Plunkett added 22. Andrew Pickel led North Putnam with 33 points and 15 rebounds against Southmont.

John Harrell prediction: North Putnam 54, South Putnam 50.

West Vigo (0-1) at No. 12 Greencastle (2-0)

The coaches: Joe Boehler is in his 11th year at West Vigo. Bryce Rector is in his third year at Greencastle.

So far: West Vigo lost 64-47 to Casey-Westfield, the No. 6 team in 2A in Illinois. Greencastle beat Crawfordsville 67-55 and Class 3A No. 7 Danville 58-58 in overtime.

History: Greencastle won 53-43 at West Terre Haute last year. West Vigo has won nine of 13 games over the past 30 years.

Key players: Kaleb Hannahs led West Vigo in scoring against Casey-Westfield with 16 points.

Brody Whitaker leads four Tiger Cubs in double figures with 17.0 points per game, while Nick Sutherlin averages 12.5, Gavin Bollman 12.0 and Cade Plew 10.0. Benny Parmley is close behind at 9.5 per game.

John Harrell prediction: Greencastle 66, West Vigo 46.

Edgewood (2-0) at Cloverdale (0-1)

The coaches: J.B. Neill is in his third year at Edgewood. Patrick Rady is in his fourth year at Cloverdale.

So far: Edgewood beat Bloomington South 62-56 and Martinsville 67-64. Cloverdale lost 45-42 to Terre Haute South.

History: Edgewood won 78-60 last year in Ellettsville and has an 18-3 lead in the series over the past 30 years.

Key players: Edgewood guard Trevor Taylor is one of the state’s top sophomores, and senior guard Joe Kido has run the points for the Mustangs his entire career.

Freshman Kyle Thomas led Cloverdale with 22 points against

GIRLS

South Putnam (4-3) at North Putnam (2-5)

The coaches: Brian Gardner is in his fourth year at South Putnam. Jarrod Duff is in his third year at North Putnam.

So far: South Putnam has won three straight games since starting the season 1-3.

North Putnam has lost four straight games since starting the season 2-1.

Per-game scoring averages: Offense — South 50.6, North 37.1. Defense — South 49.7, North 46.3.

Opponents’ records: South 31-26, North 30-20.

History: South won 56-39 earlier this month in the county tournament consolation game, and leads the series 16-8 over the past 15 years.

Key players: Junior Alex Bratcher and sophomore Chloe Custis led the Eagles with 10 points each in their 46-44 win at South Vermillion on Wednesday.

John Harrell prediction: South Putnam 49, North Putnam 43.

Special note: Tuesday’s game at Clay City will be varsity only and will start at 6:30 p.m.

West Vigo (3-4) at Greencastle (6-3)

The coaches: Jonathan Kirchoff is in his second year at West Vigo. Tod Windlan is in his first year at Greencastle.

So far: West Vigo has alternated wins and losses each game since losing its opener. The Vikings only lost 60-53 to defending Western Indiana Conference champion Owen Valley.

Greencastle has lost two of three games since starting the season 5-1.

Per-game scoring averages: Offense — WV 42.0, Greencastle 59.3. Defense — WV 46.9, Greencastle 45.2.

History: Greencastle won 50-21 last year at West Terre Haute and leads the series 7-0 in the past 15 years.

John Harrell prediction: Greencastle 61, WV 35.

Edgewood (2-6) at No. 12 Cloverdale (8-1)

The coaches: Curt Simic is in his first year at Edgewood. Matthew Langdon is in his eighth year at Cloverdale.
