DePauw teams win NCAC openers

GAMBIER, Ohio — DePauw trailed by as many as 11 in the opening seven minutes of its North Coast Athletic Conference game at Kenyon, but went on a 24-8 run on the way to an 83-75 victory.

The Tiger men’s team improved to 5-0 overall for the first time since the beginning of the 2009-10 season and 1-0 in the NCAC, while the Lords dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Kenyon got out to a 25-14 lead in the opening 6:32 on the strength of five 3-pointers.

The Tigers quickly stopped the momentum by putting together a 14-4 run to close to within one at 29-28.

The Lords scored the next four to extend their lead to five, but DePauw scored the next 11 before heading to halftime with a 39-36 lead.

DePauw 45, Kenyon 42 — Trailing 40-36 with five minutes remaining, DePauw scored nine straight and hung on for a women’s 45-42 North Coast Athletic Conference win which also was the 600th for Tigers head coach Kris Huffman. DePauw, ranked 20th in the latest coaches’ poll and 21st by D3hoops.com, moved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC.

DePauw held a 32-27 lead after Claire Keefe’s jumper with 9:02 left in the fourth period.
