PORTLAND, Ore. — Greencastle senior Emma Wilson competed in the Nike Cross National cross country meet on Saturday, running 15 seconds faster than her 14th-place time of a year ago.

With increased competition and much faster, times, Wilson — representing the Miles to Go running club — finished 32nd in a time of 17:47 to miss out on repeating her All-American status of last year.

"Emma concluded her stellar season at Nike Nationals," Miles to Go director Craig Jordan said. "She was a bit short of her goal place, but ran 15 seconds quicker than last year which speaks to the level of competition assembled at this year’s meet.

"I’m very proud of the way she competed especially considering the external stresses she was dealing with," Jordan added. "All considered, her performance was remarkable and perhaps her best to date."

Jordan noted that Wilson has concluded her fall outdoor season.

"I feel she’s got a lot to be excited about as we turn our focus to the indoor track season," he said. "We haven’t talked about goals yet, but I’m sure they’ll be big and she’ll put forth her best effort to reach them."

The winning time was turned in by junior Katelyn Tuohy of New York, who scorched the course in a time of 16:37.8.

A total of 202 runners competed in the girls' race.
