PREP ROUNDUP: North’s Baker joins county’s top trio on IFCA all-state team

North Putnam defensive back Aidan Baker was chosen to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Class 2A junior all-state team.

Baker was honored by the IFCA along with Gavin Bollman and Damon Moody of Greencastle and South Putnam’s Dalton Scott.

Baker made 54 tackles (28 solos and 26 assisted) this season, while also deflecting two passes.

Scott was listed on the Class 1A first-team senior all-state defensive squad at linebacker, while Moody was on the Class 3A first-team senior all-state defensive team as a defensive lineman.

Bollman was honored as a tight end on the Class 3A first-team senior all-state offensive unit.

Class 2A junior team — OL Casey Foster (Western Boone), QB Spencer Wright (Western Boone)

Class 1A senior team — OL Mark Caster (Indianapolis Lutheran)

Class 1A junior team — WR Austin Petrillo (Parke Heritage), RB Marcus McFadden (Indianapolis Lutheran)

Wrestling

Clovers do well at North Knox — On Saturday, Cloverdale competed in the North Knox Warrior Tournament, finishing second among 10 teams.

Coach Chris Kaufman noted that his team had eight of its 12 wrestlers competing in the final round to place in the top four.

“Our wrestlers performed a job well done representing our school,” Kaufman said..

Eagles fifth at Cascade — South Putnam finished fifth in the Cascade Duals on Saturday with a 1-4 record.

“While we wrestled well, forfeits again cost the Eagles too many points to overcome the team score deficit,” coach Patrick Pistelli said.

The Eagles’ dual record now stands at 4-7 for the season, and they host Danville on Wednesday.

Swimming

North Putnam second, third — The Cougars swam with South Vermillion at Edgewood on Saturday, finishing second in the boys’ meet and third among girls.

“I was very pleased with everyone’s performances,” coach Jeremy Tidd said. “Everyone is showing improvement and the conditioning is starting to show with the time drops we are having. We have a lot of detail work to focus on but I’m definitely proud of this group. They work hard and understand what the big picture is.”
