State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle), elected to his first term in the Indiana House of Representatives last month, has been selected to serve on the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.

Baird was also appointed to the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee and the House Environmental Affairs Committee.

“Agriculture and small businesses are essential to the state’s strong economy,” Rep. Baird said. “Growing up in a farming family and my studies in global business administration and management will enable me to lend some insights to these committees.”

Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. House lawmakers will convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2019 legislative session.

Standing committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas.

State Rep. Baird -- elected to succeed his father, James Baird, now a U.S. congressman in Indiana District 4 -- will represent all of Putnam County and portions of Clay, Owen, Parke and Morgan counties in serving House District 44.
