Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 5:44 a.m. on Thursday, Alexander M. Denny, 24, Reelsville, was northbound on State Road 243 just south of Putnamville in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.

Denny told Deputy Brian Helmer he had a Chevrolet Impala following him with its bright lights on the whole time. Denny said as he rounded a corner and entered a bridge, the Impala passed in a no-passing zone.

The other car then cut him off, forcing him to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting the Impala. Denny said his vehicle started to slide due to the slick roadway surface conditions and slid into the wall of the bridge.

The Impala did not stop after the crash.

Helmer said the road was wet and the air temperature was 30 degrees.

Denny’s vehicle was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
