Friday, December 14, 2018

Just before dismissal Thursday afternoon at Greencastle Middle School, a student made a verbal threat to two other students, Greencastle Community School Corporation Superintendent Jeff Hubble said in message Friday to parents and guardians.

Supt. Jeff Hubble

"The threat included the phrase, 'shoot up the school,'" Hubble related, adding that "teachers and GMS school administrators handled the situation immediately." The student has been suspended, pending further investigation.

Greencastle Police are also involved in the investigation.

"Please know," Hubble stressed, "that Greencastle school faculty and staff work hard to ensure student safety daily. With another school shooting in Richmond, Ind., yesterday, the concern of all students, parents and staff is increased. Our administrators and counseling team is always willing to help students and families process.

"We will continue to share the phrase, 'If you see something, say something' at all of our schools."

Supt. Hubble was in attendance at the Greencastle City Council meeting Thursday night, however no mention was made of the middle school incident.
