Two Putnam County schools were honored recently for their participation in the Champions Together program, while two groups of North Putnam student-athletes performed community service projects.

The group hit 11 houses around the community that were suggested by friends and neighbors. Students there included Dustin Novak, Mason Allen, Tori Louie, Josie Lyons, Abby Simmerman, Maddie Trotter, Kyle Young, Kenny Knutti, Grace Elmore, Lauren Lotzow, Jacob Farrington, Dagan Everman, Sophia Lotzow, Nicole Huffman, Baylee Miller, Justin Thomas, Seth Thompson, Jake Shinovich, and Asa Foxworthy.

North Putnam’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled to Indianapolis on Saturday morning to serve breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House. “We had a great time,” Cougar boys’ coach Collin McCartt said. “Coach [Jarrod] Duff and I are lucky to get to coach a group of great kids.” Duff and McCartt originated the idea three years ago. Duff’s daughter was born nine weeks prematurely a few years ago, and spent the first seven weeks of her life in Riley Children’s Hospital.
