Filing period opens for Greencastle city primary election

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

No sooner did the filing period commence for the 2019 Greencastle municipal primary election then the ballot had its first candidate.

The filing period began Wednesday (Jan. 10) and will continue until noon Friday, Feb. 8 in the Putnam County Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

Already filing for the primary on Wednesday was Democrat candidate Veronica Pejril, 12 S. Arlington St., who is seeking the Third Ward City Council seat currently held by Steve Fields who has said he does not plan to seek re-election.

Pejril was most recently an unsuccessful candidate for the Greencastle Township Advisory Board in the November Putnam County general election.

Nine city positions are on the ballot for the May 7 primary election -- mayor (currently Democrat Bill Dory), clerk-treasurer (currently Republican Lynda Dunbar), First Ward Councilor (currently Democrat Adam Cohen), Second Ward Councilor (Republican Stacie Langdon), Third Ward (Democrat Fields), Fourth Ward Councilor (Republican Tyler Wade) and three at-large seats (currently held by Republican Mark Hammer and Democrats Gary Lemon and Dave Murray).

Prospective candidates can obtain necessary forms to complete to authorize their candidacy from the Voter Registration Office or go online at www.IN.gov/sos and then access the election division and its candidate information listing where the forms are available.

Further information is available by calling the Putnam County Voter Registration Office at 655-1538.
