New partner family selected for Putnam County Habitat for Humanity spring home build

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

The sound of hammers and power tools will be heard this spring during the build of a Habitat home for Chase Hubbard, Olivia Hoagland and their two children in Greencastle.

Selecting a partner family includes a rigorous review process by Putnam County Habitat's Family Services Committee. Applicants must demonstrate a need for housing and must be able to meet other requirements set by Habitat International. Additionally, the family must be willing to partner with Habitat.

The Hubbard and Hoagland family will put in 500 hours of sweat equity while working on the construction of their own home, attending financial management classes, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

When the home is completed, Habitat families purchase their home through an affordable mortgage that is recycled to support the construction of more Habitat for Humanity homes in Putnam County.

"Learning about the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity and to possibly look to achieve the goal of home ownership was a dream opportunity that we felt for sure would only be a thought and a wish, but never a reality," Chase Hubbard, a chef at DePauw University, said. "Since learning that we have been the selected family to take part in this opportunity, it has truly been life changing. This house and opportunity for us means stability in our life, so that we can provide a constant growing and learning environment for our kids and our family."

Now is the time to support a local Putnam County family. Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking passionate community members who want to make a difference.

"We are looking for volunteers, monetary gifts, in-kind donations and sponsors" Nancy Rosa, Habitat executive officer, said.

Anyone interested in volunteering or making a donation to this build is encouraged to call the Habitat office at 653-5360 or visit the website at
