City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven recent dispatches:

• At 6:11 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 313 E. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:15 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 6:27 p.m.

• At 6:03 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 921 Zinc Mill Terrace for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:11 but found water in the detector head caused the alarm. GFD went back into service at 6:22 a.m.

• At 11:27 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to a public assist call at Goodwill for a suspicious odor. Units arrived at 11:36 but no odor was detected and no source for it could be found. GFD returned to station at 12:02 p.m.

• At 3:32 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was called to a tree down on Wood Street at The Elms, the DePauw University president’s residence. Units arrived on the scene at 3:40 and cut up the tree and removed it from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 4:15 p.m.

• At 8:38 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched again to 313 E. Hanna St. for another fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:42 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was again reset. GFD left at 8:49 p.m.

• At 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:53 and determined the alarm was due to perfume. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 2:04 a.m.

• At 7:18 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for an alarm at 10 W. Hanna St. Firefighters arrived at 7:23 but determined the alarm was caused due to a malfunctioning water flow sensor. The alarm was later reset by maintenance. GFD went back into service at 7:48 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists during this time.
