Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Area Flood Warnings have been issued for Putnam, Clay, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Shelby, Vermillion and Vigo counties until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Meanwhile Flood Watches remain in effect for central and southern Indiana through tonight.A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways in Indiana ...

Big Walnut Creek ... Driftwood River ... East Fork of White River ... Eel River ... Big Blue River ... Flatrock River ... Mississinewa River ... Tippecanoe River ... Wabash River ... White River ... Wildcat Creek.

Lowland flooding has developed along portions of west-central Indiana and will develop across many rivers and creeks across central Indiana over the next several days. One to two inches of rain fell across central Indiana Wednesday which is causing a rapid rise on central Indiana waterways.

According to the Greencastle Middle School weather reporting station, the 24-hour rainfall total (3 p.m. Tuesday through 3 p.m. Wednesday) was 1.53 inches.

Another round of rain is expected between Wednesday and Thursday night with 1-2 inches of rain expected with locally higher amounts possible south of Interstate 70.

With the ground still frozen to some degree across portions of central Indiana and saturated soil from the rain on Wednesday, more of this rain will become runoff than would normally be experienced with this amount of rain.
