GHS vocal, piano students earn gold division honors

Greencastle High School vocal and piano entries competed in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Competition on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Terre Haute North Vigo High School. The students spent several hours practicing to perform in front of highly qualified judges.

Sixteen vocal and piano entries competed on Saturday. There are five different groups that a student could enter in from Group V (easier music) to Group I (very difficult). GHS vocal and piano entries were entered in Group I, II and III.

Out of 16 entries, 11 entries received a Gold (the highest rating). If a student receives a Gold in a Group I category, they get to go on and compete at the state level on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis.

Group II - Gold Division -- Siddalee Cox, piano solo, and Amelia Mathis, vocal solo.

Group I - Gold Division students going to state are Eihi Yoshinaga, piano and vocal solos; Addison Hughes, vocal solo; Ben Wilkerson, vocal solo; Selene Seaman, vocal solo; Siddalee Cox, vocal solo; Lauren Hopper, vocal solo, and Nathan Simmons, vocal solo.

A total of eight students will move on to perform at state at Perry Meridian High School.

The GHS choirs are directed by Jake Gadomski.
