EVANSVILLE — Greencastle sophomore Brach Carrington won his opening match in the Evansville Reitz Semistate wrestling tournament on Saturday, defeating senior Trent Brown of Jeffersonville by fall in 2:49.

Carrington then advanced to the “money round,” in which the four winners all earn spots in the state finals next weekend.

Carrington was unfortunately paired with undefeated Matthew Lee, a junior from Evansville Dei who won four straight matches to stay undefeated.

Lee defeated Carrington by a 12-4 major decision, ending the Tiger Cub’s season at 20-6.

Former North Putnam Middle School wrestler Kysen Montgomery was second in the 120-pound division, and will compete in the state finals on Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
