A highly ethical group of Greencastle High School freshmen may have a very bright future ahead of them, based on the results of a recent Ethics Bowl event at DePauw’s Prindle Institute for Ethics.

GHS fielded three teams of the fifth annual State of Indiana Ethics Bowl contest, but it was a team composed entirely of freshmen — Casey Crary, Ben Huff, Iris Mackenzie, Maiesah Rashid and Dale Thomas — that found itself second in the state at day’s end.

After going 2-1 in the morning rounds, the team advanced to the single-elimination tournament in the afternoon. They defeated Avon in the quarterfinals, a team whose captain is heading to Stanford to major in neuroscience, before defeating South Putnam in the semifinals.

In the finals came a close loss to multi-year defending champions Herron High School.

The GHS Ethics Bowl team is coached by C.J. Shields. Other team members include Sarah Heithaus, Anne Hershberger, Oliver Mackenzie, Micah Hammond, Izaiah Campbell, Connor Crary, Bailey Williams and Anastasia Wood.
