Halfway There

Continuing his 100-mile walk in honor of both his late grandfather and fellow student Tyler Trent, Purdue University junior Aaron Lai could be seen making his way south toward Greencastle from Brick Chapel Monday evening. Lai had to stop on the side of U.S. 231 to change his shoes, which had become worn out. Lai left Purdue’s campus at 7 a.m. Sunday from the Delta Chi fraternity and planned to stop in Cloverdale last night, then leave at 5 this morning to cover the rest of the route to Bloomington. Lai said he was hoping to arrive at Assembly Hall at 6 p.m. before the tip-off of this evening’s basketball game between Purdue and Indiana University. Lai is making the journey to raise awareness for cancer research, honoring Trent, who died last month from a rare form of bone cancer, and his grandfather, who passed away two years ago from lung cancer. Lai’s effort has raised more than $10,000, which will be donated to Purdue’s Center for Cancer Research.
