Winter Weather Advisory: Snow overnight may turn to sleet, freezing rain

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Putnam County and most of Indiana Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

An expanding area of high pressure will produce clearing skies late tonight. But a surge in warmer, moist air north will overrun the cold layer and spread into central Indiana late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, causing snow to develop overnight. That snow will later become mixed with sleet and freezing rain as temperatures rise.

Expect six to eight hours of wintry precipitation over the area before it ends around sunrise Wednesday.

Greencastle and Putnam County lie within the area expected to receive 1-2 inches of snow.

INDOT will have a full call out of nearly 120 drivers in West Central Indiana beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday. Drivers will be treating routes and plowing as needed until conditions improve. Motorists should should give INDOT yellow trucks plenty of room.

Travel may be difficult the morning commute, with conditions improving by late morning as temperatures warm.
