County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 1:49 a.m. Reginald Lamar Felton, 23, Gary, was housed at the jail on a Morgan County warrant.

• At 3:36 a.m. Kelly Dean Foreman, 24, Greencastle, was booked in for operating while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 6:35 p.m. Teshamah Charmaine Jones, 18, Chicago, was lodged at the jail for theft.

Friday

• At 10:32 p.m. Sarah Elizabeth Lange, 38, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a Hamilton County warrant.

• At 10:18 p.m. Kimberly Ann Skelly, 35, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a local warrant for theft.

• At 1:32 p.m. Amber Dawn Bartley, 31, Brazil, was booked in on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 12:35 p.m. Daniel Neal Bates, 40, Elkmont, Ala., was lodged at the jail on a court order.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:17 a.m. on Monday, Kip D. Maynard, 17, Fillmore, was westbound on County Road 50 South when he lost control of the 2003 Ford Ranger he was driving.

Maynard told Deputy Josh Boller he was going about 45-50 mph when he hit a small patch of ice. The vehicle slide sideways across the eastbound lane of travel and left the road, hitting a sign and flipping once into a yard.

Peyton L. Cofer, 16, Fillmore, was a passenger in the pickup told Boller he had struck his head and had minor pain in his back. Cofer’s mother was contacted and both Maynard and Cofer were going to the doctor to be medically cleared.

The truck was towed. Boller estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Christa J. Smith, 23, Montezuma, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2011 Nissan Juke when a herd of deer came out of the dark at County Road 500 East.

Smith told Deputy Daniel Birt she could not avoid the animals, sustaining heavy damage to the front of the vehicle.

The vehicle was towed. Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine recent dispatches:

• At 9:54 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Percy Julian Drive. Units arrived on the scene at 10 p.m. and only assisted the patients. GFD went back into service at 10:02 p.m.

• At 10 p.m. on Friday, GFD was sent to 1238 Castlebury Dr. to investigate a reported gas leak. Units arrived at 10:05 and monitored the property, but could not detect a leak. Vectren was also called to the residence. GFD went back into service at 10:33 p.m.

• At 2:38 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was called to 415 S. Locust to investigate a ruptured steam pipe. Units arrived at 2:44 and located a hissing noise to the basement. Maintenance then shut off the pipe, and GFD reset the fire alarm. GFD went back into service at 3:27 a.m.

• At 5:16 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 2 W. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:21 and found that a pull station had been activated, but could not locate the station. GFD left shorty afterward, but then returned after the pull station had sounded again. The pull station could not be identified, and GFD returned to station at 6:43 a.m.

• At 6:04 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 405 N. Jackson St. to investigate an odor. Units arrived at 6:12 and monitored the property, but could not detect a leak. GFD went back into service at 6:17 a.m.

• At 6:59 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 1205 S. Bloomington St. Units arrived at 7:02 p.m. and assisted the patients involved, as well as cleaned up fluid and debris. GFD went back into service at 8:20 p.m.

• At 9:03 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 110 E. Larabee St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:07 and determined that the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 9:18 p.m.

• At 12:17 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:21 and determine that a scent device had caused the alarm. GFD left at 12:32 a.m.

• At 4:10 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 315 E. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:12 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:16 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed eight medical assists and had one disregard.
